Leonhard Euler scholarships awarded

Europa-Institut awarded three scholarships to three scholars for 2020/2021

Europa-Institut was able to award three scholarships, financed by the Leonhard Euler programme of the DAAD, to three scholars from the law faculty of Belgrade based on their excellent research proposal and experiences.

Research Stays 2020
The scholarships enables the scholars to focus on their research project, which is connected to European and International Law. All are in the last stage of their PhD project and will finish their thesis in the upcoming year. The research stay allows the scholars to add an European and International perspective to their topic and will bring them into contact with German research institutions. The supervision is jointly done by the Serbian faculty as well as the Europa-Institut, its directors and lecturers. This scholarship gives the scholarship holders the possibility to get qualified and to broaden their horizon. In 2020 one scholar already came to the Europa-Institut and were thrilled by the research opportunities, especially in times of corona. The other scholars plan their stay for 2021.

Leonhard Euler programme
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports the Leonhard Euler Scholarship Programme with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA). The programme promotes the implementation of joint binational research projects in order to contribute to the retention of young university teachers (e.g. during the doctoral phase) at their respective home universities in Eastern and South Eastern Europe as well as countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia.

The Leonhard Euler Programme focuses on on-site scholarship support ("SurPlace") in conjunction with an (additional) one to three-month study visit to the German partner university. In addition to qualifying young academics, this programme aims to increasingly promote young academics for cooperation between different chairs at the participating universities. Furthermore, the programme is intended to help counteract the "brain drain" of qualified young researchers.

Scholarships 2021/22
Europa-Institut already applied for new scholarships for the period of 2021/2022. A call for application will be published in the second half of each year.
