Graduation and Opening Ceremony
Day of beginning and end at the Europa-Institut

On Monday, 10th October, the annual graduation and opening ceremony of the Master's program "European and International Law" of the Europa-Institut took place in the Audimax of Saarland University. The students of the academic year 2021/2022 received their graduation diplomas, while the students of the academic year 2022/2023 were officially welcomed to the Europa-Institut and Saarland University.

A warm welcome from the Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Annemarie Matusche-Beckmann to the "Newbies",  big congratulations to the graduates "and their parents" from the Minister of Finance and Science of Saarland Jakob von Weizsäcker and an official heartfelt "hello and goodbye" from the President of Saarland University Prof. Dr. Manfred Schmitt: This year's graduation and opening ceremony at the Europa-Institut was full of praise and appreciation for the Europa-Institut, the graduates and the new students of the academic year 2022/2023. 

 

Prof. Dr. Manfred Schmitt had the pleausure to award this year's Hans Werner Osthoff Prize to Shaun Fu from Singapur for his Master's Thesis about Tax Law.

Meike Kartes of the ASKO Europa Foundation awarded the Arno Krause Prize to this year's EuroSim team with Anna Alexandersen, Alphan Barlascan, Beatriz Diegues Dal Poggetto, Anita Grigoryan, Abhishek Janardhanan, Michael Kemp, Dimitri Lienard, Siyaamala Loganathan, Ogochukwu Muomah, Jan Helge Brask Pedersen, Lisa Schneider, Shriya, Archina Sivarajpillai, Erik Sommerholt, Nataliia Vodko and their coaches Dennis Traudt and Lars Ruf.

 

Prof. Dr. Michael Hahn, Director of the Institute for European and International Law at the University of Bern and Director of the World Trade Institute spoke about the topic of "International Economic Law in Times of Crisis" in his keynote speech.

 

Finally, the two directors of the Europa-Institut, Prof. Dr. Marc Bungenberg and Prof. Dr. Thomas Giegerich, reported on the work of the past year and the current situation of the Europa-Institut and presented the diplomas to the graduates.

 

The evening was brought to a close with good food and good music at the AC-Café on campus. We are looking forward to the new academic year!
